The next attempt at a stitch-up begins: letter from Gemma Tumelty and Wes Streeting to NUS conference delegates

Dear delegate,

Thank you for coming to NUS Annual Conference and we hope you enjoyed your experience. While it is still fresh in your minds, we would like to take the opportunity to get your feedback on the proposed changes to NUS’ democracy and governance.

You will recall that whilst the majority of delegates supported the ratification of the review, the vote fell just short of the two-thirds majority required to fully approve the proposals on the first day of Conference.

There remains a clear mandate for change. In addition to 65% of you voting to pass the review as it stands, motions calling for NUS to go back to the drawing board or abandon the review in its entirety were strongly rejected.

That said, we are committed more than ever to listening and learning in order to make your national union right for you.

As part of this process, we would be grateful if you could respond to this short questionnaire by 5pm on Thursday 10 April, letting us know your initial thoughts on the review and where we could improve, to inform how we should proceed from here.

A summary of the proposals that were presented is available here:
http://resource.nusonline.co.uk/media/resource/Governance%20Summary.pdf

If you are not a delegate, could you ensure that this questionnaire reaches all those that attended Annual Conference. Please reply to governance@nus.org.uk

Many thanks for your time,

Gemma Tumelty, NUS National President
Wes Streeting, NUS National President-elect
